Employment and Training
Our Rural Resources AmeriCorps Members are placed in local school districts throughout Stevens and Ferry County as full time Academic Tutors and Mentors. Our members tutor students are struggling in Math and/or Literacy in 1-on-1 or small group settings to help them improve in these subjects. Our members tutor and mentor over 200 students in our local schools each year with an average of over 100 students demonstrating improvement. Members also assist with after-school programs and functions as well as serve other local non-profits during school breaks. Furthermore, Members recruit between 50 and 100 volunteers each year to assist with community projects.
AmeriCorps Members sign up to serve a 10.5 month term of service while accumulating at least 1700 hours (average of 40 hours a week). AmeriCorps Members are considered full time volunteers however they do receive a living stipend of $1,450 (pre-tax) each month and basic health insurance at no extra cost. While serving, members who have qualifying student loans may place those on forbearance and the program will pay the interest that accrues. Upon successful completion of their 10.5 months, and at least 1700 hours, Members receive an Education Award of $6,095 that can be used towards previous student loans or to pursue furthering their education.
Who qualifies for these services?
To be an AmeriCorps Member, an individual must : 1.) Be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. 2.) Have a high school diploma or GED. 3.) Pass National Service Criminal History Background checks.
