Rural Resources Opens Recovery Cafe in Colville

Safe, sober environment will offer support for people in recovery

For immediate release: December 23, 2024

COLVILLE, WA—Rural Resources Community Action (RRCA) will soon open the Connections Recovery Café in Colville, offering peer-to-peer support and holistic services in a drug-, alcohol-, and judgment free environment for individuals focused on recovery from addiction and substance use disorder.

The Café will join a national network of Recovery Cafés using an emerging effective clubhouse model to provide peer-to-peer support, mentorship, and compassionate accountability for community members in recovery. Research and practice show that peer-to-peer support is a key predictor of recovery and long-term sobriety, as well as lower rates of overdose.

“Without a strong support model, people who are working toward recovery usually only get help when they’re in crisis,” said Hillary Hogan, Program Development Manager at RRCA. “The Recovery Café model provides community support and connection, fosters accountability, and empowers individuals to develop resilience, which we hope will have a positive impact in our community. Through the Café, we aim to provide services for sustainable recovery with support from collaborative partnerships.”

Members of the Connections Recovery Café will also have access to RRCA’s wraparound services like housing assistance, Victim Services, employment and training opportunities, as well as supported connections to other resources, such as mental and/or physical health referrals and community partners’ programs.

“Our case managers working on-the-ground have seen a growing need for this kind of recovery support system in our community,” said Hogan. “The Recovery Café model is well aligned with Rural Resources’ overall mission of empowering people in becoming self-sufficient.”

The Recovery Café will soft launch in the coming weeks, offering basic recovery-related assistance and services, group meetings, and simple meals. In early 2025 RRCA will expand services for Café members, and plans to host an open house and a documentary film screening. To participate in the Connections Recovery Café program, members must be sober (no drugs or alcohol for 24 hours) and dedicated to sobriety.
