Rural Resources Seeks Community Support to Combat Senior Hunger in NE Washington

Colville, WA – Every day, hundreds of seniors across northeast Washington face food insecurity and isolation. Many are homebound, living alone, and struggling to access nutritious meals. Rural Resources is dedicated to ensuring no senior goes hungry through its Senior Nutrition program, which provided 41,000 meals to over 700 seniors in need in 2024. However, with demand growing, the organization is calling on the community for support.

Rural Resources is seeking donations to continue delivering healthy, delicious meals to local seniors who rely on this essential service. Contributions directly impact individuals like Shawn Williams of Kettle Falls, a military veteran and former prison guard who lost his eyesight due to a genetic disease in 2019. Thanks to the Senior Nutrition program, Shawn receives three nutritious meals each week, delivered with care by friendly drivers who brighten his day.

“I don’t have to cook out of a can,” Shawn shared. “The meals are downright delicious.”

Beyond meal delivery, the program offers critical safety checks and companionship to seniors, ensuring they remain nourished and connected. With community support, Rural Resources can continue providing these vital services to vulnerable seniors.

“We believe no senior should go hungry or feel forgotten,” said Aja Bridge, Nutrition Services Director at Rural Resources. “With rising costs and increasing demand, we need the community’s help to keep this program strong and sustainable.”

Donations are tax-deductible and can be made online at ruralresources.org/nutrition-donations or by mailing a contribution to Rural Resources (if mailing a check, please specify Senior Nutrition on it). Every gift, no matter the size, helps ensure seniors in northeast Washington receive the nutrition and support they deserve.

Rural Resources also invites local businesses to become valued sponsors of the Senior Nutrition program, directly benefiting seniors facing food insecurity in northeast Washington’s rural communities. Sponsorships will directly support the Senior Nutrition program and showcase commitment to the well-being of local seniors. If interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact communications@ruralresources.org for more information.
